Melbourne Celebrant Diary #7

The love for Shania

Liv & Luke @ Highlands - Jan 2 2021

Liv and Luke's ceremony was my first for 2021, though – truth be told - I'd been looking forward to it for most of 2020.

They’re an easy-going country couple who ooze a laid-back regional charm. Just really lovely, genuine people.

Man, I wish I was from the country. I tell people I am. But I‘m a Melbourne celebrant who was born in Berwick.

I’m not fooling anyone.

That said (or written, perhaps?), if you finish this blog, you’ll discover a VERY interesting fact about the township of Berwick.

What a treat.

Liv and Luke’s ceremony took place in what can only be described as the single most beautiful piece of land this side of the Sahara.

As a wedding celebrant I get to go to many, many places, but this estate… words don’t do it justice. I’ll pop some pics up on my Insta.

Liv and Luke are a proper example of patience and succeeding against international odds.

They fell for each other during pre-drinks for a uni party. Not long after, they started dating along the electrifying streets of BrisVegas, before hitting a fork in the road: Liv had pre-booked plans to head overseas to teach.

So, well, they broke up.

And things remained this way for a long, long time.

Thankfully, after many years and a random catch up at a lifesaving club in Queensland (#starya), Luke decides to join Liv in the UK and they have the time of their lives.

Maybe even better than the time I kicked three goals in the first quarter of my last ever game of footy.

Once Luke’s visa runs out, they return to Aus, buy the cutest corgi I’ve ever seen, and proceed to indulge in their greatest passion of all: Shania Twain (Liv is a huge, huge fan).

It was an absolute belter of a wedding; a superb way to start 2021.

Omg, btw, here’s a line I didn’t include in the finished script. I’ve listed part of it below for your reading pleasure (it’s the second para). This is just like a DVD deleted scene right now.

Here’s the context: Liv and Luke are at the dress-up party. Liv is dressed a green alien. Luke is Indiana Jones. They are about to meet. Here goes…

A green aura permeating from Liv lights up the room and fills it with hope. The world moves in slow motion as Luke spits out a mouthful of his beer in delight.

The feeling is likewise from Liv, who could’ve sworn Harrison Ford was in Australia for his 17th instalment of the Indiana Jones series, in which Indy would be squaring off against gout and arthritis.

Oh, and before I forget – that Berwick fact….

This first EVER Aussie Olympian came from Berwick. His name is Edwin Flack and he won gold in the 1500 and 800 metre events.

BONUS FACT: I used to play footy for Berwick U/18s on Edwin Flack reserve. I won the runner up best and fairest.

Which feat is more impressive??

I’ll let you decide.

P.S. it’s mine.
